New Year's Day

New Year's Day is the most important event for Japanese people. There are a lot of New Year's Habits such as eating special foods, going to shrine, and giving or getting special money.

First, I introduce special foods. One of them is an "Osechi". Osechi is the Japanese traditional New Year's Day food. Osechi includes sweet chestnut, black beans, shrimp, lotus root, and so on.

Each ingredient has a wish. Because sweet chestnut is golden and looks like treasure, it has a wish to be a rich year. Because black beans mean healthy and strong, it has a wish to work diligently. Because shrimp is crooked, it has a wish to live long. There are still a lot of ingredients and these wishes, so if you're interested, why don't you look into it.
